It's summer.
You just got out of the pool and you're walking towards that ladder that seems to disappear into the sky. Water droplets drip drop off of the pointy part of your elbows as you hug your clenched hands to your chest.
You climb the rungs, the soles of your feet grip the scratchy black tape that covers each step.
When you reach the top you have a view of the entire pool. You're up high, too high, and you're scared. Good scared.
But you're ready.
Your feet take off before your brain has quite registered what is happening. And then you jump.
